The best way to find out is to reach out. We are happy to answer questions before you book and help you decide whether our approach is a good match for you.
Yes. We use the word 'women' as an umbrella term for hormonal and reproductive nutrition relating to female physiology. We are gender-affirming + inclusive and can support those whose concerns fall within our dietitians' scope of expertise.
We hear this more than you might think, and we understand the skepticism that comes with it.
If you've met with a dietitian before and walked away with a meal plan that didn't account for foods you actually like, given nutrition advice so generic that you could've just googled it, or left feeling so defeated and judged that you walked out convinced the problem was you..... Well, we want to apologize on behalf of our whole industry. That is NOT a failure on your part. That's 100% a mismatch between your/your family's needs and a conventional approach to nutrition (plus someone who might not take the time to listen).
At Radica, we specialize in exactly the kind of complexity that falls through the cracks of general nutrition advice. We're not going to hand you a list of off-limits foods and follow up in 6 months.
We're going to take the time to understand how your brain works, what your needs are, what mealtimes actually look like in your house, and what realistic progress looks like for your family. We work alongside your existing care team, we move at your pace, and we measure success by whether you and your family feels better, not by whether you hit some random definition of healthy.
If it hasn't worked before, it may just mean you haven't found the right fit yet. We'd love to be it.
Intuitive Eating is an evidence-based framework developed by two registered dietitians that helps you reconnect with your body's natural hunger and fullness cues, instead of relying on external rules, restriction, or diet culture to tell you how to eat. It's built on ten core principles that together work to stop the binge-restrict cycle, rebuild trust with your body, and make peace with food. It's not a diet. It's the opposite to one.
In individual sessions, Intuitive Eating is woven into everything we do. Rather than handing you a generic meal plan and a list of foods to avoid, we work together to help you reconnect with your body's signals, challenge the food rules that diet culture has planted over the years, and build a relationship with eating that feels sustainable, flexible, and genuinely yours. This looks different for everyone; for some clients it's unlearning decades of dieting, for others it's learning to eat without guilt for the first time.
In family sessions, the focus shifts to creating the conditions for the whole family to thrive, especially kids. We work to build a mealtime environment where food is neutral, hunger and fullness are respected, and children grow up learning to trust and accept their bodies before others have chance to get in the way. There's no negotiation, no clean plate clubs, and no bribing with dessert. Mealtimes are peaceful, where everyone gets to eat without anxiety, and parents feel confident they're setting their family up for a healthy relationship with food that lasts a lifetime (i.e. raising intuitive eaters).
Family nutrition counseling zooms out. Instead of focusing on one person's relationship with food, we look at the whole picture: the shared meals, the different preferences under one roof, the mealtime dynamics, and the habits that get passed down without anyone really noticing. Individual nutrition counseling zooms in; it goes deeper into one person's history, health needs, and relationship with food. Many of our clients do both, and the two work really well together.
Yes, definitely. We're happy to support all family units, including those without children, for both individual and family nutrition.
All Radica Family Nutrition services are offered virtually, making it easy to access specialized support from wherever you are. Virtual nutrition counseling is available for those located in DC, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan and New Jersey.
Usually, we can also accommodate family members in separate households. Need grandparents to join a session because they watch the kids while you're at work? Is one parent stuck in traffic and running late? Have a kid away at college who needs to join? No problem, we will send them a zoom link to join us.
Services in additional states may become available as licensure expands; please reach out if your state is not listed here but you are interested in our services.
We know that access to a registered dietitian can be limited depending on where you live. Virtual sessions remove that barrier without removing the quality of care.
Yes. Research supports virtual nutrition counseling as an effective format for working on your food relationship. Many clients find it easier to be open and consistent when they can access sessions from a familiar, comfortable environment.
Nutrition counseling focuses specifically on behavior change related to food, eating behaviors, and nutrition. Therapy addresses the emotional and psychological aspects of your well-being. Working with your dietitian may feel similar to working with your therapist because the best work happens in the space between sessions; when you're at the grocery store, at the dinner table, or just noticing how you feel during a meal. We give you the tools and you bring them into your real life. Both nutrition and mental health therapy are important and essential parts of overall health & wellness.
Unfortunately, no. Cristina's caseload at Aterra is nearly full, and she won't be taking on new clients at this time. Sam Nuzio, RD and Daylan Wentland, RD are outstanding dietitians, and they will be leading the nutrition services for Radica.
